SixDegrees was the first social networking site founded on the idea that you are only ever six degrees of separation away from knowing anyone. The website has a very outdated interface with a side menu bar and clunky tabs.

LinkedIn was and still is the main portal to connecting with professionals. However it's original site was poorly designed and filled of ads and promotions. Just see the opening page!

Facebook was first introduced as a platform for students in college and high school. This link illustrates the categorized SNS use Facebook originally intended the site to follow. Its design is minimalist but certainly outdated in this example.

YouTube had a pretty tough interface with tons of tabs and links spread out across the page making it hard to navigate. Their ads and promotional content was also heavily incorporated into the seemingly messy design. However, we are starting to see integration of the top horizontal menu bar.

Twitter looks surprisingly dated for 2006. There does not seem to be any dedicated header or title on the page and its cluttered with poorly labeled and organized content.

Tumblr is pretty minimalist with a very straight forward interface design. There is very little text on the opening page and only a few buttons to interact with. This helps streamline navigation and interactions with the site.

Instagram is the first representation of modern day SNS use we see. While this website is only advertising the phone application, you can clearly see it's difference from the previous SNS. Even the coloring and sleek design is foreshadowing present day SNS.
